Young woman in a beige sweater looking thoughtfully out a bright window, wondering if she might be pregnant.

A late period can bring a lot of questions.

Could I be pregnant? Is it too early to test? What if the test is positive? What am I going to do?

Before you get too far ahead of yourself, start with what you can know right now.

If your period is late and pregnancy is possible, your first step is to find out whether you’re actually pregnant.

When Should I Take a Pregnancy Test?

Home pregnancy tests detect a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which your body begins producing during pregnancy.

Pregnancy tests are generally more accurate after your missed period. Testing too early can sometimes result in a negative result even if you are pregnant.

If you’ve taken a home pregnancy test and aren’t sure you can trust the result—or if your period is late and you’re unsure what to do next—you can schedule a no-cost pregnancy test at Assure Women’s Center.

What If My Pregnancy Test Is Positive?

A positive pregnancy test gives you one important piece of information, but you may still have questions.

How far along am I?

Is the pregnancy developing as expected?

What are my options?

What should I do next?

At Assure Women’s Center, you don’t have to have all of those answers before you come in.

Depending on your situation and medical history, your appointment may include pregnancy testing and an ultrasound when medically appropriate. An ultrasound can provide additional information about your pregnancy, including information that may help determine how far along you are.

What If I’m Considering Abortion?

You can still come to Assure.

In fact, if you’re unsure what you want to do, this can be an especially important time to slow down and gather information.

You may feel pressure to make a decision quickly. But before deciding what comes next, you deserve the opportunity to understand what’s happening with your pregnancy and think through how it affects your health, your life, and what matters to you.

Assure does not provide or refer for abortions. Our role is to provide medical services, information, and a place to process your situation without pressure.

More Than a Pregnancy Test

An unexpected pregnancy can affect much more than your physical health.
