Can I Get the Abortion Pill by Mail?

Pregnancy can be tough, even when it is planned. Morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings and food aversions can all take a toll. When pregnancy is unplanned, and comes at a bad time, you may just be looking for an exit.

But before you decide to take matters into your own hands with the abortion pill, here are some things you should know:

The Abortion Pill Has Risks

Taking the abortion pill series has caused complications and adverse reactions for some women.

Essentially, when you take the abortion pill, you are forcing yourself to miscarry and then “giving birth” to your pregnancy at home in your bathroom, without the supervision of a doctor.

The risks of this include:

  • Heavy bleeding and blood clots
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Incomplete abortion, where all the parts of the pregnancy are not expelled from your body
  • Pelvic shock
  • Sepsis

You Need to See a Doctor

Before taking any medication, you need to see a doctor. Being pregnant is a major health ordeal. Ending a pregnancy is not something that you should do on your own.

You need to get an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is viable. You also need to make sure you are less than 10 weeks gestation before you take the pill series.

Seeing a doctor will also help you confirm that the pill will not interact with any of your medications since there are over 200 medications that the abortion pill can’t be used with. You also can’t take the abortion pill if you use certain types of birth control, like an IUD.

And the FDA clearly advocates that the only safe place to get the abortion pill is from a licensed doctor.

Not All Pills Are the Same

While there are abortion pills available on the internet, the FDA highly recommends that you avoid ordering them from a third party source. These drugs are not regulated and not held to any standards of accountability to make sure that they are safe.

Third party pills could be contaminated with harmful bacteria, contain additives that may cause a negative reaction, could be expired or even fake.

Your health is worth more than a cheap fix that may or may not cause more harm to your body. It’s not worth it to order the abortion pill online without the input of a doctor.

Things Will Get Better

This is just a season. No pregnancy lasts forever. And, even the toughest of pregnancies do get better.

You are at a fork in the road, and the path that seems most obvious may not always be the best one.

Even if it seems impossible right now, there is a chance that parenting or adoption might be better options for you than abortion. If you decide to continue with your pregnancy, you will be rewarded for all the morning sickness with a beautiful baby who will look at you like you hung the moon.

If you choose adoption, you will give your baby a life full of opportunities that you can’t currently give them. You will get to choose the family that your baby goes home with and when. You will also receive financial aid to help with things like maternity clothes, medical bills, and even housing and food.

If you choose parenting, you will get to know a love that makes it all worth it. You can find financial assistance through government programs, which often help with medical bills, food, diapers and sometimes childcare.
